Could Emotional Intelligence Be the Missing Piece in Your Growth?

You hit deadlines.

You work hard.

You know your job well.

Yet promotions pass you by, opportunities slow down, and leadership doesn’t seem to ‘see’ you.

The issue may not be your intelligence, qualifications or effort.

It may be your emotional intelligence.

Here at The EQi Glow, we will never tire of telling you just how important your Emotional Intelligence is. How can it really influence how you ‘walk and talk’ which are the important components if we want career progression and professional success?

Research, from the likes of Van Rooy & Viswesvaran (2004), found a significant correlation between EQ and career progression across various professions. Many modern studies support the reality that our emotional intelligence plays a pivotal role in fostering both personal and professional success.

So if you haven’t yet started paying attention, let me give you a couple of reasons as to why you should now. Because having low emotional intelligence may mean you have:

  • The inability to form and sustain healthy interpersonal relationships

  • A diluted or suppressed attitude towards social responsibility

  • Inefficient communication skills

If you find yourself unable to hold professional relationships or struggle to communicate successfully with your team. You may benefit from further insight into why this is a pattern for you.

It’s so important to be able to communicate efficiently with the people in your team. It leads to greater ways of working, innovation and a healthier working environment. But a huge contributor to this involves understanding and managing your own emotions, as well as recognising the emotions of others. Low EQ can lead to strained relationships, as you may struggle to connect and empathise with other

What Stagnation Can Look Like at Work

If you have ever felt stuck in the workplace, but can't really put it into words. This is what it can look and feel like:

  • Being overlooked for promotions

  • Constant conflict with colleagues

  • Struggling with feedback

  • Feeling misunderstood

  • Being technically brilliant but difficult to work with

  • Poor visibility with leadership

  • Burning bridges unintentionally

  • Resistance to change

Career stagnation can quietly damage both professional growth and personal confidence.

When we feel stuck in the same position, overlooked for opportunities, or unable to progress despite our efforts, frustration often begins to build. Over time, this can lead to disengagement and a decline in overall performance. Many of us will start questioning our abilities, losing the enthusiasm and ambition we once had for our work.

Stagnation can also affect workplace relationships and visibility. Staff who feel unrecognised may withdraw from collaboration, avoid taking initiative, or become resistant to feedback and change. This can create a cycle where the limited growth opportunities lead to behaviours that further reduce the chances of advancement. In competitive workplaces, career progression is not only based on technical ability but also on adaptability, communication and emotional awareness.

The long-term impact can extend beyond the workplace.

Career stagnation often affects self-esteem, confidence and even well-being, especially when individuals compare themselves to peers who appear to be progressing faster. Without reflection and personal development, many people remain stuck in patterns that limit their potential. Recognising the causes of stagnation is therefore an important first step towards meaningful growth, improved relationships, and renewed career momentum.

That’s why we created "The Human Edge". Our new Emotional Intelligence development workshop. Designed for the people who know that they can reach their potential, if only they had a little help.

The great thing is that we all have the capacity to grow our EQ. So why not use it? Why not develop such an important, yet undervalued aspect of ourselves, which will definitely propel us further into the future? Because having a high EQ gives you endless possibilities to change your life. It gives you more options to choose from!

Are you going to allow your anger loose on a person who just wronged you? Or will you first calm down and give yourself some time so that you can calmly let that person know how you feel?

Are you going to let moments of low motivation stop you from being productive? Or will you give yourself a pep talk, so you can put yourself in a better mood, and do what you need to do?

Having greater awareness of our EQ also increases our awareness of choice. We can choose what to do with the emotions we feel and utilise them to benefit us more than ever before!

Emotional Intelligence is that conversation you have with yourself about what you're going to do with that emotion you are feeling. This training workshop is developed to help you sharpen and strengthen that voice within you. So you can have a better voice guiding you throughout your career.

The workshop focuses on the following three components:

  • Understanding Self: You will receive unparalleled insight into your Emotional Intelligence and its impact on your daily life.

  • Understanding Self in Spaces: You will gain amazing insight into your reactions and responses to external stimuli whilst receiving unique solutions for how to better manage emotions in different spaces, cultures and environments.

  • Understanding Self in Spaces with Others: You will develop knowledge on how you control and process your emotions around others, and get useful guidance on how to strengthen your capacity to engage well with others.

Good Managers have a High EQ

This workshop is accessible to every level within the organisation. No matter your position and role.

But right now, I am especially talking to the managers and leaders. Because honestly, there isn’t enough emotional intelligence in leadership. In 2026, we know that the groups increasingly entering the workforce are demanding something different.

And guess what?

They are fundamentally reshaping what we expect from our leaders whilst emphasising the need for a more adaptive, inclusive leadership style.

More and more people are requiring their managers to demonstrate empathy by actively listening to their team, acknowledging their feelings and considering their viewpoints. Good leaders know this and leverage this emotional insight to build trust and rapport, forging strong connections that transcend differences in background or identity.

These are the leaders of today and tomorrow.

People that demonstrate self-awareness, and make the effort to reflect on their own habits, behaviours and thoughts to ensure fairness in their decision-making processes.

All these words that I’ve used describe the new era of leadership and represent the development of emotional intelligence within our workplaces. These leaders possess a profound understanding of emotional intelligence, and they utilise it by recognising and valuing the emotions and experiences of every individual within their team.

If you want people to use these same words to describe you. Then you need to embrace the richness that delving more into your emotional intelligence as a leader can bring you. I’m telling you now that in order to thrive (not just survive) in working environments, you need to develop upon your emotional/social skills to better cope in a complex environment.

At a time when businesses need human-centred leadership more than ever, EQ is not just a “soft skill”—it’s a competitive advantage!

Because we see this workshop as a way of standing up to Artificial Intelligence.

AI cannot have emotions. Only humans can. It is our Human Edge

So be curious.

Be curious about this very special skill you possess that’s going to be your advantage over AI. Curiosity isn’t just about seeking new information, it's a key aspect of effective communication and a core skill of emotional intelligence. It drives understanding, deepens connections, reduces assumptions and enhances empathy. All important aspects of professional and personal development!

For leaders, curiosity can transform workplace culture.

Imagine replacing "Why did they do that?" (frustration) with "I wonder what led to that decision?" (openness).

It changes everything!

So to summarise, career growth is rarely determined by technical skill alone.

In today’s workplace, the ability to communicate effectively, manage emotions, build strong relationships, adapt under pressure and lead with self-awareness can often be the difference between remaining stuck and moving forward.

Many professionals spend years focusing on qualifications and performance while overlooking the emotional intelligence skills that influence how they are perceived. The truth is, opportunities are often given to those who not only perform well, but who also create positive impact within teams and workplace culture.

The encouraging part is that emotional intelligence is not fixed. It can be developed, strengthened and applied intentionally. Small changes in self-awareness, communication, and emotional regulation can significantly improve career progression over time.

If you are ready to break patterns of stagnation and develop the skills that truly set professionals apart, our new workshop, The Human Edge, is designed to help you do exactly that.

This practical and transformative experience explores how emotional intelligence can elevate workplace performance, relationships, leadership and long-term career success. Spaces are now open, and you can book your place today to start building the human skills that create lasting professional growth.
